It was an absolutely outstanding trip to China(Beijing, Xian & Shanghai). From travel agent Kathryn how answered all the question on time with honesty. To the three guides we have in each province were very kind guys, down to earth and Chinese history masters. They Simplify my trips Had the wonderful time and a knowledge in a life time. Hotel with very nice rooms in all three places and outstanding buffet Breakfast. All the meals I had was delicious, I certainly recommend this trip with Amaztravel. You have to see it to believe it .
Our family (mom, dad, and two grown daughters) had an excellent trip to China and Japan 4/6 - 4/18/2017. Mavis, at Amaztravel did a great job arranging our desired activities and hotel during the China portion of our trip. She stayed in touch often and followed up with details and additional information up to the very day of departure. Pricing was very fair, and everything that was described was accurate, possibly even better than presented. We were met by our guide, Daniel, at the airport, even though not everyone in our party arrived at the same time. We traveled in a new clean, comfortable van driven by Mr. Jong and stayed at The New World Beijing Hotel, an EXCELLENT choice. Daniel actually checked us in and physically took us to our rooms to make sure they were acceptable! Daniel could not have been a better guide for us. His mastery of the English language and its subtleties, as well as his excellent skills as a guide surpassed our expectations. He is a wonderful and knowledgeable story-teller, and was so kind to adjust schedules and activities (several times) to accommodate our specific requests and needs. He took a real interest in our situation, and was professional and friendly every minute. We began to think of him as one of the family! We felt our tour gave us a very broad and interesting exposure to the wonderful city of Beijing and surrounding area, and we hope to return someday to see more of China. (Only if Daniel will be our guide!) Our driver, Mr. Jong, was also extremely good at his job. The van was always ready and waiting, clean, and comfortable. He took our teasing very well, and always did his best to make our trip a pleasure. He even showed us some of his racing skills on the way to the Ming Tombs! Very exciting! All in all, our China tour was the high point of our Asian visit, and we continue to talk about it. We will refer any anyone we know to be planning a trip to China to Amaztravel, and to Mavis personally. Thank you all for such a great job!
First things first. One reason there are few reviews about AmazTravel is that most of their business has been from Asia to the US. According to our agent Kathryn they have only gotten involved in English-speaking travel within the past year. Prior to the trip Kathryn kept us informed all along the way, encouraging us to get our visas through their office, which was quick and painless. My passport was back to me in a little over 2 weeks. 3 others who planned to take the trip decided to apply for visas on their own, and were all turned down by whichever Chinese embassy they used. Kathryn informed me as soon as we had confirmation numbers for the flights, so I was able to call Air China right away and arrange for extra legroom season the trans-Pacific flights. My 35 inch inseam legs were sooo grateful! I flew from SFO to LAX and joined four friends and relatives from Chicago to fly to Beijing 5/18. We were met outside of baggage by our guide Jony, who had slept at the airport to be on time for our 6 AM arrival. 3 others on our tour were on the same flight as well. He took us to our spacious A/C bus (temperature went to 102 our first day!) and our driver took us to the Temple of Heaven since it was too early to check into the hotel. This was typical of Jony's ability to adapt "on the fly" to shifting schedules, traffic delays, etc. He was interesting, funny, fluent in English, and full of interesting historical notes. He even helped me get an aisle seat on our Xian flight when they had stuck me in a middle seat! We met up with 3 others at the hotel to form a group of 11 for our Best of China tour 5/18-27, 2017. We spent 3 activity-filled days in Beijing, resting on the bus between events. The hotel breakfast buffet was great, with lots of interesting Asian items to sample, but pancakes, bacon, omelets, and Cocoa Krispies for the less adventurous. The West International Trade Hotel was clean and comfortable, and I even got in my mile swim in their 25 meter indoor pool! We flew to Xian on a rainy day, with a flight delay of several hours, and got a bit wet boarding and offboarding on the tarmac, though Air China did have some disposable ponchos to distribute. We met our guide Arnie at baggage, and took a smaller but still comfortable bus right to the hotel due to the flight delay. Again, Arnie was a great guide, adapting the schedule to our travel delays. Easy to understand, funny, and knowledgeable. The next day was very full since no touristing happened on our rainy flight day. After the Big Goose Pagoda, City Wall, and Terra Cotta Warriors we were all ready for bed! The next day most of us flew to Shanghai, and 3 left for Tibet. We were met by William, drove to The Grand Mercure Baolong Hotel, had dinner, and headed to bed. The hotel lobby was impressive, and breakfast buffet was great (my favorite breakfast was dragon fruit, marinated lotus root, and wontons, but all the usual Western stuff was available too.) I loved the 25 meter pool, and got in my mile swim twice! The room were spacious but a little worn around the edges. William was cheerful, energetic, and anxious to please. We didn't have a large enough group for the Suzhou tour, so he arranged a day trip to the Water Town, complete with sampan ride through the canals, and lunch at a waterfront restaurant. Sat May 27 William got us to the airport, took us through check-in, and then escorted us to Security/Passport Control, where we said our goodbyes. 3 great cities, 3 great guides, 2 swimming pools, and a wonderful trip! AmazTravel was great to work with. Their office is in LA (one of our group actually stopped by their offices when she was visiting LA before the trip) and they are easy to reach-no long phone menus-live people actually answer the phone. I highly recommend AmazTravel. One travel tip-bring NEW bill if you plan to exchange dollars for yuan over there. Hotels would only accept near perfect bills- any marks, writing, moderate wrinkles, or even tiny tears were rejected.
