In the center of the People's Square is Shanghai Museum, which contains a large collection of ancient Chinese art. Opened in 1952, this modern museum is home to over 120,000 relics from Chinese history. The museum occupies an area of 39,200 square meters, and it holds eleven galleries and three exhibition halls on four floors. The galleries display such things as ancient bronze artifacts, silk embroidery, various examples of historical furniture, jade structures, imperial seals, ceramics from different dynasties, Buddhist sculptures, painting, calligraphy, and ancient Chinese coins. The museum's pieces are well preserved, and most exhibits are in multiple languages. Visitors come to the city center's Huangpu district to see the grand museum's impressive display of Chinese artifacts reflective of many different time periods. Come here and you will spend hours looking at vivid colors, elaborate presentations, and rich history.
